Sally K. Ride

Sally K. Ride was born May 26, 1951 in Los Angeles CA. She was selected as an astronaut candidate in January of 1978 by NASA. Dr. Ride went on many missions and served as an on-orbit capsule communicator on the STS-2 and STS-3 missions. Dr. Ride has written five books for children on space as well. Sally K. Ride was an outstanding astronaut and won countless awards. “She has been inducted into the National Women’s Hall of Fame and the Astronaut Hall of Fame, and has received the Jefferson Award for Public Service, the von Braun Award, the Lindbergh Eagle, and the NCAA’s Theodore Roosevelt Award. She has also twice been awarded the NASA Space Flight Medal.” Said on the website http://www.jsc.nasa.gov/Bios/htmlbios/ride-sk.html. Dr. Sally K. Ride was one of the many people who risked their lives to help us understand outer space.
